Baby Bumpdate - 34 weeks pregnant

3 February 2017

We really are reaching the last hurdle now, but it's true what they say about the final few weeks - they do absolutely drag like hell! Weeks 20-30 flew like crazy, but anything after 30 weeks has massively slowed down. Dan and I are both getting a little bit impatient now actually. We're so ready to meet our Peanut and finally put a face to the name! (I think lots of people will actually continue calling our baby Peanut once he or she is born at this rate!) I have a number of friends who are pregnant and I'm one of the last ones due, so it's been amazing hearing the news of their births. I'm now just excited for it to be my turn!

How far along? 34+6 weeks (I tend to post these updates at the end of the week so I'm nearly a week ahead from 34 weeks now!)

How big is baby? Apparently, baby is now the size of a cantaloupe melon!

Gender: Unknown - I really cannot wait to meet our little one and find out whether we're Team Pink or Team Blue now!

Bump: Still no sign of dropping! I saw the midwife on Wednesday of this week, and she said that she could really understand why I was in so much discomfort, because baby is still so high. She also said that baby continues to be head down (thank goodness - I'd been worrying baby could have been breech or transverse!) and the likelihood of moving from head down is very slim. Massively puts my mind at ease! Peanut's back is also pressing mainly towards my left side, so I often have a big bulge that sticks out of one side - so bizarre!

Movement: More active than ever. I'm so used to having something dancing around inside of me that I wonder if I'll ever get used to not having a baby growing inside of me after I give birth! At night, Peanut particularly likes to kick Dan in the back too!

Weight gain: Not a clue! All I know is that I'm still able to wear pretty much all of my normal clothes and haven't gone up sizes.

Maternity clothes: I've only bought 3 pairs of jeans and 2 dresses so far in maternity clothes. I also finally invested in some maternity tights for work and my GOSH what a dream they are. The comfort is real. Definitely one of the best things I've spent my money on in regards to being pregnant.

Sleep: No change really - it's still pretty sparse! It's the usual drill of being up 5-6 times in the night, and rarely sleeping past 4am. I just keep focusing on the fact that my body is obviously conditioning me for having little sleep in the future, which has got to be a good thing because I'll be more prepared in the long run. It is hard watching Dan sleep like a baby though when I'm shattered, I will admit.

Best moment this week: The midwife telling me that she thinks I've had an excellent pregnancy and that I will (fingers crossed) hopefully have a decent birth too. Obviously, you can't plan for labour whatsoever as you don't know how it will go, but I would like a natural birth with mainly gas and air (if possible) but I'm not naive to the possibility that intervention can happen if needed. However, it was very reassuring hearing that she thinks everything is looking good for a positive labour.

Worst moment this week: I had some very interesting pains at the weekend, and it had me out of bed doubled over. The pains were coming in waves (very much like contractions) but I had no other signs of labour, so was advised to just monitor them. They subsided on Tuesday and all seems to be normal. A sign of things to come? Maybe!

Cravings: I'm craving a lot at the moment actually - all the usual things though: cloudy apple juice, cereal, tangerines, and chocolate biscuits (which I never, ever eat as I don't like biscuits!)

Belly button: Very much still an innie! I'm starting to wonder if it will ever pop out like most people's do?

Engagement ring on/off: I'm really pleased as it's still on. I haven't had any trouble with swollen hands or feet...yet!

Mood: Still happy and positive. I'm just mainly excited for labour now (I bet you I won't be saying that when it happens!)

Missing anything: Sleeping on my tummy - I never appreciated it as much as I do now I'm pregnant!
