Yep..I'm one of those people who celebrate their animals birthday, and I'm not ashamed to shout about it. In our family, our animals are just as much a part of the family unit as any human - they're more than 'just a pet' and we're firm believers in including our pets in as much as we can, which is usually why Max goes pretty much everywhere with me if I'm able to take him. As a lot of you will remember from this post, Max had a pretty awful start to his life - I don't know about you, but I don't think being abandoned at the side of a road in a bin liner would ever be enjoyable. Since I rehomed him two years ago, I've made it one of my goals to make sure he always has the best life in as many ways possible that you can imagine, and his 3rd birthday wasn't any different.

The morning started off with giving him his new collar - he's totally unaware how on trend he looks right now (a good fashion move from me). We then headed for a rainy walk down the River Wey so Max could have a good run, bark at the ducks and wear himself out a little. After I got home from work later that day, I gave him a special birthday treat dinner of a nice bowl of chicken - lip smacking good so he told me! Later that evening, Gemma came round with her little Maltipoo (Maltese cross Toy Poodle) called Meeko, and they had a little party together. Whilst we sipped prosecco, Max and Meeko played tug of war for hours on end and proceeded in getting out every toy that Max owned. They honestly played so much it was incredibly difficult to get a decent photo!

I'm pretty certain Max had a lovely birthday. I can't believe he's 3 already - time is flying with him and I just don't want him to grow up!

Current Skincare 2014

5 January 2014

I'm pretty lucky with my skin, I'm not going to lie. Right now, my skin is having one of its less great moments, but genuinely that means one or two spots and nothing else major. When my skin is good, it doesn't mean I just forget about it and thank my lucky stars. Skincare is one of my most important factors in my beauty regime so I take the time to do what I can to keep it tip top and well looked after. 2013 was the year that I really upped my game with skincare products, exploring more of what my skin might be needing and learning about different ingredients that might be in the products we whack on. I'm going into 2014 with the same attitude, and thought I'd share with you some of the initial products that have moved from 2013 into 2014 with me.

Firstly, Origins GinZing Energy Boosting Moisturiser. This is one of those products where you consistently ask yourself why it took you so long to try the damn thing. I started using this during December 2013 and it's probably the first item that's joining me on my skincare quest to stardom in 2014. The first thing that will hit you when you undo the lid is the smell of citrus and oranges - it's the first thing that will help to wake you up before you drag yourself to work in the morning and it's utterly divine. The consistency is very gel like and goes onto the skin like a dream - I've found that I need a surprisingly small amount of product to use on the whole face. Instantly, it seems to give you a glow and a healthy kick, and definitely makes me look like I've been awake longer than I have (this is very clever by Origins..I'm never awake that long before I head to work...) due to the panax ginseng. Even the tub is bright orange so makes you feel more awake. Good going Origins. So many clever little ideas! The formula is oil-free which ticks a box for me, as I'm not a fan of oily residues you can get from some moisturisers, and it keeps my skin hydrated for hours. Total. Fan. Currently this is my moisturiser of choice for 2014.

The second product joining me in 2014 is the Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel. Now I'm a veteran when it comes to using this product. I remember stealing this from my Mum when I was about 12 and was desperate to use it as my Mum hyped so much about it - it's true...I paid attention even when I wasn't a teenager yet. It has since sat ready in my bathroom, usually in my bath caddy, ever since. All you do is apply a 10 pence piece amount to dry skin and massage in. As you do this, the gel becomes an oil (magic eh?). Once splashed with a little water, the oil becomes a cleansing milk which gets rid of any nasties in the skin and pores, and then you wash it off. It leaves my skin feeling absolutely beautiful, and it has the added property of being kinda magical..I know..I'm impressed by small things.

A face mask joining me is the Deep Cleansing Pure Clay Mask from Mudd. I am a bit of a face mask person me. A sign of a real relaxing night in is chucking on a face mask with a good film, so I do own a good few masks in various price ranges. The Mudd varieties are well down in the budget range and I've been a user of them for about 2 years now. Made up of pure clays and minerals, it feels like you're literally slapping on a load of real mud, but give a few minutes and it starts working its magic. Personally, I love the weird tight feeling a mud mask gives you. Plus, you can scare your friends (I'm a fan of Snapchatting them my face). Skin feels smooth and squeaky clean after use.

Last joining me is the Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum. Usually, my skin is dry like the Sahara so I'm always after a product that can give it back some moisture, and the whole of the Clarins HydraQuench products do just that. My particular favourite is this serum. Packed with hyaluronic acid and inca peanut extract (which helps to make the top layer of skin thicker so you lose less moisture) there's only one way to describe this and that's 'bloody good.' I usually apply this before going to bed once or twice a week to help give a bit of drink to my skin.

So there you go - 4 products that will be following me into 2014 from 2013. These are by no means the only products, oh no. But they are definitely a good starter to keeping my skin healthy and happy.
