Home Aesthetics

A house isn't a home until it has your touch on it - for me this means fairylights (and lots of them at that!), photo frames (ok lots of those too..), little nik naks of your life everywhere, a million bits of Disney memorabilia and of course, flowers. I feel more relaxed when I'm surrounded by things that make me comfortable, and I've learnt over the years that I need all of the said things to make me feel relaxed. I now buy flowers once or twice a week, I enjoy walking around my local garden centre, making photo albums and framing my fav snaps, burning candles, and giving my home those 'comforting items'. I suppose these items can be personal and extremely different to everyone, but that is what makes it your home. If you'd have asked me six years ago maybe, if I enjoyed walking round garden centres, I probably would have said 'Bore off, that's my Dad's territory.' It makes me chuckle! But now, with my own little space, it's all so different and I'm grateful I enjoy the aesthetics that make my home, 'home'.

The blue vase is a new one from Matalan - it was £10 and I literally ran to the till with it saying 'gimme gimme gimme'. Turquoise blue is one of those colours that pulls on my heartstrings and I'm not sure why. The colour scheme in our bedroom at the moment is white, black and turquoise, with a little bit of beigey grey thrown in for cushions. The frame which I spoke about in my latest vlog is also from Matalan and is £5. I seem to buy all my frames from there as they are sturdy, yet inexpensive. My reed diffuser is a fav from Next - the scent is 'Fresh Linen', and if you like Yankee Candles 'Clean Cotton' then it's very similar to that. I get through a lot of the reed diffusers from Next as they're great value for money (this one is £5 but they range up to about £20) and they do a whole load of scents for people who like the florals or citruses. The milk jug vase is another Matalan special at £6. I did actually tweet Matalan recently to say that they were stealing all my money, but really it's my steal as their homeware is fabulous and so affordable. This sits on my windowsill so the sun bounces off the flowers, next to my favourite photo of my mum and I when we were on holiday in Miami back in the 90s.

What is so lovely about 'home aesthetics' is that you don't even need your own house. Just your room, or your uni room is enough to make it your 'piece of home' and how you want it. It gives everyone the chance to represent themselves and feel totally relaxed. I'd love to know what your fav home aesthetics are!

Also, a new duet is up on YT of me singing with one of my fav YTbers. It's 'When I Fall In Love' by Celine Dion so bit of a mushy one but I really think it sounds fabulous. Make sure you sub to Jack..he's a wonderful singer!

  1. I can't wait until i can start putting these lovely bits and bobs around my home! I think it's not really home until the "finishing touches" are there, it's what makes it yours like you say! Your home looks lovely :) I adore the three picture frame with Max running along in one of the pictures :) xx

  3. I'm looking forward to doing this when Tom & I move into our new place! I will have to have dedicated girl and boy areas though. I want fairy lights, he wants signed football framed photos.. we need to come to a compromise! haha

  5. I think a trip to Matalan is in order, those vases are lovely, I didn't realise they had such nice stuff! I totally agree that just a couple of nice things can brighten up any room, although my dad would disagree as whenever he has to take me down to uni at the start of the year he complains I have too much stuff (: xx
