Gosh Velvet Touch Foundation Primer

19 February 2012

I've been after a new primer for ages. I find them incredibly hard to work with at times - greasy, silicony, and just a tool to clog up your skin. However, when you find the right one, they do work very, very well. This Gosh Velvet Touch Foundation Primer was on special offer in Superdrug last week so I thought I'd give it a go.

What the bottle says: It's a perfect base for all makeup. It fills in fine lines and deep pores in the skin, creating a uniform, matt and silky soft surface, enabling the easy and smooth application of foundation. The primer can be used after daily moisturising or on clean skin. The formula is perfume and preservative free.

Now when I pulled this out to try last week, Abby literally went 'Omg don't do it' or something similar along those lines. She said that when she'd used it about 3 years ago, it felt like rubbing heavy silicone into your pores. Both of us decided that in 3 years a lot could have changed, so when I swatched it and it didn't feel heavy at all, we both thought it may have improved. Now I always use a primer after moisturiser and I use it quite sparingly. I have dry skin and I don't get many spots, but I'm always very wary of primers changing this. It felt light on my skin and breathable. However, it did feel quite oily on my hands after and I did have to wash them quite thoroughly to get the residue off. In the last couple of days that I've used it, it has kept my foundation in place but I'm not sure how much longer than it would last without it. Velvet touch skin, yes. That much is true.

For £10.99 I think this is an ok price. It's a big bottle and will last me ages, as a little goes a long way with this product. One pump is usually enough for my face. However, I won't use it everyday. There are some days when I think that you don't need primer, and our skin has enough issues dealing with foundation, let alone primer.

I'd probably buy again if it was on special offer, like this time.

  1. Have you tried the GOSH velvet cream primer? It feels a lot less oily than the original one.

  4. I've been wondering about getting a primer for a while after seeing so many reviews and blog posts about them, but like you state our skins have to deal enough with foundations and everything else that I wonder if I really need one?!

  5. i've tried the GOSH primer before and I think it is not too bad for the price, but I'm like you I don't use a primer everyday, I know a lot of people say you should but I'm always wary of piling loads of crap onto my face!

  8. Super late comment haha - never mind! I use this product in the cream version and it is a lot better than the gel! It's been 20C+ today and my make-up has not budged! Definitely worth the £12.99 price tag!
